Ray, Mike and Natalie headed to France at the weekend for the first recce for Mule Normandie. It wasn’t a holiday! We drove the 50 mile route sorting out morning, lunch and afternoon stops (our Mules always have time for a beer…sorry coffee…); we either stayed in or visited the hotels we’re going to be using, ate in or found restaurants for dinner and found a selection of places for our Mules to stop along the route.
All went worryingly well, 50 mile route is lovely, Mike particularly likes days three and four – nice and gentle and some lovely views!
And we put an order in for sun for June….what could possibly go wrong….
Day 1 – Saint Lo to Omaha Beach
View from hotel in Saint Lo
So which way do we go….??
Don’t worry we’ve ordered the sun for June…
At the American Ranger Museum, Pointe de Hoc
American Overlord Museum at Omaha Beach and across the road is an American Cemetery
Statue of Peace
Mercure Omaha Beach, hotel for second night
There’s a spa and TWO golf courses at the hotel….Mike reckons he’ll get his Dream Team there in plenty of time to get nine holes in…..
Day 2: Omaha Beach to Flers via Bayeux
We may have taken a wrong turn….
Ibis in Flers, hotel for third night, about 1km walk into Flers
Day 3: Flers to Mont St Michel
Ready for the off on a sunny but frosty morning, car looks like it’s been on a rally after being battered by the sand in the wind yesterday!
50 milers, you’ll like day three, especially if the sun shines like this….beautiful scenery
Mont St Michel – well worth a visit. Working on a restaurant inside the walls for dinner here
Day 4: Mont St Michel to Dinan
Mercure in Mont St Michel, hotel for fourth night
More lovely views for the 50 milers
Another huge church in a tiny village, this one in Dinge
Le Zag, our restaurant for dinner in Dinan
Mercure Jezual, hotel for the last night in Dinan
Just about time for a quick hot chocolate before we headed back to St Malo
